Multi-Unit Residential Building Retrofit Program

The Multi-Unit Residential Building Retrofit Program is offered in partnership by BC Hydro and the Government of B.C. to assist in reducing the cost of a whole-building upgrade, plus supports improvements to energy efficiency, comfort, and greenhouse gas reductions in multi-unit residential buildings. It is available to purpose-built rentals, condominiums/stratas, and equity co-ops that are three storeys or higher, and includes the following offers:

  • Opportunity Assessment– An opportunity assessment is carried out by an energy consultant to provide you with an overview of how your building uses energy. It highlights short- and long-term opportunities to improve efficiency, cut fossil fuel use, and more. Funding can cover up to 100% of the assessment cost, up to $5,000. Taxes are not included.
  • Feasibility Study– An Alliance of Energy Professionals consulting engineer conducts a feasibility study to evaluate retrofit options, costs, impacts, and savings for your building system. Funding may cover up to 100% of study costs (maximum $30,000, excluding tax) if implementation begins within 12 months.
  • Available Rebates – Eligible window and door upgrades must replace single-glazed or non-thermally broken double-pane units (U-factor ≤ 1.53 W/m²K) across the whole building. Incentives are based on square footage or rough openings, with current offers of $17/sq ft or up to $500 per opening.
